Embracing Perimenopause: Supporting Your Journey

Perimenopause is a phase that many women anticipate but few expect to experience so intensely despite a healthy lifestyle. As I recently realized during a mishap in my yoga class, this transitional period can manifest in unexpected ways. In the middle of a deeply connected, fulfilling session with my Move With Ease community, I forgot to hit record—*"the second time I've done this in the last six weeks."* Such events push us to confront the widespread misconception that health routines can entirely prevent perimenopause.

The Biological Reality of Perimenopause

There's a prevailing belief that by doing all the right things—exercising, eating well, being mindful—one might avoid the effects of perimenopause. Yet, this assumption often crumbles under reality. *Perimenopause isn't something we can bypass;* it is a natural biological process that impacts women generally in their 40s and can last several years. As hormones fluctuate, women might experience an array of symptoms affecting their brain function and overall health.

During discussions with friends, I've seen the surprise on their faces when they learn of my symptoms. One remarked, *"You're so healthy, you do yoga, you run, you're mindful,"* capturing the disbelief that often accompanies this transition. Despite a lifestyle filled with healthy activities, brain fog and fatigue still occur, emphasizing that no woman is immune.

Understanding that *"this is just where I'm at today"* becomes crucial. Recognizing that perimenopause is part of nature's timeline and not a reflection of neglect provides space for acceptance without undue self-criticism.

Strategies for Navigating Change

In place of seeking immunity from perimenopause, the focus should shift to how we can manage and support our bodies through these changes. Supporting our well-being through activities like strength training, cardiovascular fitness, and yoga plays a significant role in maintaining balance. Incorporating practices such as hormone replacement or consulting with a naturopath could further ease this transition.

Community support offers a powerful tool against isolation and confusion. *"We really, truly are not meant to do this alone."* As part of the Move With Ease community, women find the encouragement and solidarity they need, sharing experiences and advice that lighten the emotional and physical load.

The Move With Ease community emphasizes that *support from peers who empathize* makes a difference. Whether it's the shared experience of forgotten tasks or dealing with unexplained fatigue, being surrounded by those who understand can transform these challenges into shared growth opportunities.

Embracing Community for Strength and Grace

Communal bonds reveal that grace is as essential as grit in facing perimenopause. The act of forgiving oneself for forgotten recordings or off days nurtures self-compassion. It's easy to slip into old patterns of self-criticism, fostering thoughts like, *"You should be better than this,"* but embracing grace can reframe these moments into growth opportunities.

Women in their late 30s to 50s, feeling foggy or exhausted, should know they are not failing but engaging in a natural transition. Communities like Move With Ease offer a platform to reclaim control through collective resilience and understanding, ensuring that nobody journeys through perimenopause without support.

If you seek strength, connection, and support as you navigate this change, our community awaits with open arms. By bridging individual experiences, we can collectively transform perimenopause from a solitary struggle into a journey of shared empowerment. *For further insights into navigating this life stage, explore the full episode for more guidance.*
